Century Complete Model 1802b

Buying a home was a huge goal of mine for many years now. As a single mother it has been quite a challenge. But I was up for the challenge and took on side gigs, setup a savings plan and worked on my credit to get where we needed to be. I took this goal to the next level in April 2021 when I started talking to Lenders.

With the advantage of working from home I was able to get my employers approval to relocate to another state. This made a huge difference as I could now look into areas that were more in our budget and that is when the dream really started to come true. I went from looking into manufactured/modular homes to new stick built homes. And this is where we landed, with model 1802b through Century Complete homes.

One thing that was tough was that there were no models of this home anywhere near where we currently lived and so I had to go off of drawings and walk through videos of a digital plan of the home, no actual pictures anywhere. Then I found a video on youtube and I seen the potential in real life and I knew it was the right choice.

We put a deposit down in August 2021 and the new build was complete by end of December 2021. It seemed like we were waiting forever at the time. This is the first picture we got of our new home, and it came from the appraisal. We were so excited to see this!

And the next time we seen the house was our walk through/move in day! Yes we moved in the same day and when we pulled up we were a bit shocked. I took this from the car sitting waiting for our appointment time for the walk through. It was raining the property was a muddy mess.

So as you can tell from the roll of carpet in the garage, they were not ready for us to take possession of the house and move in. But we had to, my son was on the way with the trailer full of our belongings and we literally only had a few hours to unload everything and make it back to turn in the trailer before the rental store closed. It was crazy! The contractors team had to move all the carpet rolls so we could unload all my possessions into the garage, and they did work pretty fast and so did we! We cranked up the energy pulled the trailer up to the garage and unloaded a 6X10 trailer jam packed full all under 30 minutes! It was amazing I didn't think it was possible but we made it all happen.

Our first night in our house was very memorable! I finally made it to my dream of home ownership and the feeling was amazing! But it was kind of squashed by the freezing temperatures in the house. It was in the 50's inside 20-30 outside. The crew that was still cleaning and gathering their tools said that it would take a few hours to heat the house back up since they had doors and windows open before we arrived. But they called in an emergency call to the HVAC company to come by that evening around 6:30pm.

Unfortunately there was some kind of miscommunication and no one from the HVAC company showed up, when I called them they said the appointment was scheduled for the morning instead and now it was too late for me to find anywhere to stay for me and my pets. So we all huddled up in 1 bedroom and tried to stay warm by wearing extra clothes and using every single blanket we had. It got so cold we could see our breath inside.

In the morning when the HVAC tech arrived he figured out that whomever installed the pantry shelves punctured a HVAC line in that wall which prevented the unit from working. Some shelves in the pantry had to be removed and a section of the dry wall cut out. My pantry stayed like this for about 6 weeks.

At least the heat was back on and we were so much more comfortable. We moved into the house before the cleaning crew had even come through so it was a mess, that same next day we had a slew of people coming through to clean up and do last minute items that they hadn't gotten to before our move in. Those first few days were very chaotic, people coming and going. It took several weeks for the home to start to feel like home.

I am preparing a video touring the new house and will share the link to it soon here. From the videos that were available on youtube I gathered a basic idea of the layout of the house, so I was surprised when I moved in and there were extra windows in a few places and a backdoor with a window in it. I was super surprised to see that most hallways and windows have rounded edges and that the walls were textured. In fact the wall colors were a surprise as well. I was expecting a color closer to a light gray such as "agreeable grey", instead the walls were a color called "city loft" which in different lights looks either off white, peach or just white. And it is flat paint so not the best for cleaning purposes. With animals and children I often have to wipe down the walls and baseboards, but this flat paint and texture wipes right off with even a simple wipe with a damp rag. So I will definitely have to invest in a good paint job which I wasn't planning on having to do. There also were no hardware on the cabinets, nor any type of towel racks, etc. in the restrooms.

Here are a few random pictures from around the house within the first few weeks of moving in:

Follow my Instagram for more pictures, decorating updates and improvements to home. I am really looking forward to sharing the progress especially with the backyard. This home was only landscaped by builder in the front yard. The backyard was only graded and is just all desert dirt & rock. I have so many grand ideas but am going to take my time no rush. Thank you for visiting.
